Introductions!

Postby Melanie » Thu Apr 08, 2010 10:00 am

New to the board? Then reply to this thread and introduce yourself!

I'm Melanie, and I'm a writer. No, seriously.

For those of you who don't know me - I work as a professional technical writer, documenting software. In my spare time, I am involved in all kinds of writing activities, focussing on the creative side of things. The project currently sucking up the most of my time is Starwalker, the ship's log told by the ship.

I keep a writing blog that tracks my adventures in writing, and there's a fuller bio on there if you're interested.

I'm also a big geek, play video games, and hold semi-regular Guitar Hero nights for my mates.

That's me - now it's your turn!

Hi, I'm David Schick. I'm a dad, a husband, an employee, a student, and a bunch of other things too, including the reluctant author of an online novel www.caughtsomewhereintime.com, which is really just a rough draft made public.

I am a life-long geek, raised on original Star Trek re-runs, Dungeons & Dragons, and all the other stuff that people make fun of now. Even I make fun of it, so it's OK to laugh at me.

I enjoy reading science fiction, and have only recently discovered the online fiction community. I am currently reading Starwalker regularly. I also added Starwalker to the dmoz.org open directory project when I became an editor for that part of the website recently (hope that's OK Melanie!) in hopes that others would find the story as intriguing as I do. I also listen to a lot of music, play video games, and sometimes even find some time to spend with my family.

Hi David! Thanks for coming. :)

I'm happy with Starwalker being added to directories! As long as it's not an 'avoid these things at all costs' directory, I'm good. Thanks!

I'm Clover, and I write both a web serial, <a href="http://inventor.cityofcomplications.com">The Inventor</a>, and a <a href="http://mayor.cityofcomplications.com">personal weblog</a> on food and writing. So far, anyway. I'm between jobs and looking for a position in SQL development, but for the time being I'm happily pounding away at both my web serial and a novel set in the American southwest that I hope to have finished in the next year or so.

I foster homeless parrots, cook and knit in my spare time.

Hullo! I'm capriox, and I loooove Starwalker!

I'm an avid reader/farmer/writer. I read scifi/fantasy, mostly, but plenty of other bits along the way. I work on my family's 200+ year old farm with dairy cows, assorted crops, and my own personal business: meat goats. I've loved writing fiction for a long time, and I've recently started my own web serial, a sword & sorcery called Strong Heart.

This is actually a bit awkward timing for me, because the story is currently on http://bovidae.livejournal.com, but I'm working on moving to a http://www.digitalnovelists.com site this month. By May, my story will be at http://capriox.digitalnovelists.com. Erk. All well, what ya gonna do.

Bio Stats: female/25/married in NYS, USA.

Hi capriox! Thanks for the review last month. Your comment never got emailed to me and it languished in moderation for weeks until I happened upon it.:( Whoops. Nice to see you around here!

Also apparently the board does not accept HTML. How embarrassing!

I consider myself a writer in the other, more strict definition "one who writes", as in, "one who uses written communication", rather than the definition more commonly used around here. :D That said, I'm here because the wonderfully melodious Melanie has been someone who, for reasons unknown, has chosen to keep my e-acquaintance for more years than she'd probably admit to.

That said, I've been an avid reader of pretty much anything I could get my hands on. As such, I've developed a rather deep-seeded passion for linguistics and languages. I love pretty much all genres of fiction, usually able to get into whatever I'm watching or reading to some extent. In further geekery, I can argue Grecian philosophy or modern ethics with equal abandon and pleasure. I am also an unabashed pedant--they say never argue with a fool, for he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. I say never joke around with a pedant, for he will drag you up to his level and beat you with the dictionary--and the dictionary hits harder. :D

So. yeah. Thus is my defacement of this otherwise-lovely tribulation to Melanie. :D
